Special air quality statement in effect for:

  • Fort Qu'Appelle - Indian Head - Lumsden - Pilot Butte

Widespread smoke across Saskatchewan.

A large area of smoke from forest fires over Northern Saskatchewan and Northern Alberta continues to blanket much of Central and Northern Saskatchewan. Visibilities have been reduced to less than 3 kilometres in many areas of Central and Northern Saskatchewan and air quality is poor due to the smoke.

Significant smoke will return to the southern half of the province as well today. Northerly winds are set to return with the passage of a cold front and once again put most of the south downwind of the thickest smoke plumes. Conditions will remain poor tonight. Some improvement is expected over the course of the day Wednesday as winds turn southwesterly and shift the smoke eastwards.
