Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake - Weagamow Lake - Deer Lake

Significant snowfall amounts tonight and Thursday expected in many areas.

A low pressure system over Southeastern Manitoba early this evening is expected to move into the Sandy Lake area tonight and then track slowly eastward to James Bay by Thursday night.

An area of heavier snow along and north of the track of this low pressure system is expected to move into areas near the Manitoba border this evening and move eastward overnight and Thursday. 10 to 15 cm of snow are expected across many of the regions by Thursday evening.

Brisk northwest winds will develop Thursday afternoon over western sections and Thursday night over eastern sections bringing blowing snow at times.

Regions south of the track of the low pressure system will get much less snow. A brief period of light freezing rain is possible along the James Bay coast Thursday morning before the snow changes to rain.
