Wind warning in effect for:

  • Bonavista Peninsula

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A very intense low pressure system is forecast to track through the Gulf of St. Lawrence overnight tonight and Sunday.

Southeasterly wind gusts between 80 and 110 km/h are expected to develop overnight tonight into Sunday morning. As winds veer to the southwest on Sunday afternoon gusts will remain between 80 and 110 km/h. A slight diminishing trend is expected for most of the island later in the afternoon except over the Great Northern Peninsula where southwesterly winds will continue to gust between 100 and 130 km/h.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
