Alerts for: Bonavista Peninsula

3:56 PM NDT Wednesday 01 April 2015
Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Bonavista Peninsula

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Heavy snow is forecast to rapidly develop this evening, with snowfall rates of up to 6 centimetres per hour reducing visibilities and making travel very hazardous. Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 centimetres are expected by the time the snow ends just before Thursday morning. Westerly winds gusting to 70 km/h will continue to reduce visibilities in blowing snow into Thursday morning before improving by Thursday afternoon as winds subside.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Stay up to date with Weatheradio or your local media. Email reports of severe weather to or call 1-877-815-9900. You may tweet reports using the hashtag #NLwx.
