4:57 AM PST Thursday 18 December 2014
Wind warning in effect for:

  • Haida Gwaii

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A vigorous Pacific frontal system will arrive on the B.C. coast this morning bringing southeast winds of up to 90 km/h over exposed coastal sections of Haida Gwaii and Northern Vancouver Island. The winds will subside late this afternoon over Haida Gwaii and early this evening over Northern Vancouver Island as the front weakens and moves inland.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds. Avoid wooded areas to prevent injury from falling trees or branches. Campers should move to sturdy shelters.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please monitor local media or Weatheradio. Email reports of severe weather to or tweet with the hashtag #BCStorm.
