Rainfall warning for
East Columbia issued
Significant rainfall will continue.
This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.
An upper low pressure area situated over Washington state will finally begin to move into Southern Alberta tonight and Friday. Moisture wrapping around the low will also begin to shift as the low moves northeastward. As a result the main areas of heavy rainfall, which have mainly been over the Kootenays, will begin to move northward into the Columbias tonight. The heaviest rain is expected to fall in the East Columbias and Yoho Park where amounts of 20 to 30 mm are expected by Saturday morning.
Heavy rain is also forecast to continue in the Eastern Kootenays near the Rockies. Areas in East Kootenay region - north including Invermere and Elk Valley region will see further amounts of 20 to 30 mm by Friday night.
In addition snow levels are expected to lower this evening across the Kootenays and Columbias. Over Yoho Park including Kicking Horse Pass and portions of Elk Valley region some wet snow is expected overnight and early Friday morning. A few centimetres of wet snow is possible.
